Black Bottle

Black Bottle has recently launched a new look bottle and blend. Master distiller Ian Macmillan describes it as follows: “Fresh and floral on the nose with whiffs of new-sawn oak and a hint of smoke, it opens onto a silky palate with delicate smoke and peat balanced by sweet oak and honey, to end on a lingering finish of spice. This whisky is very versatile and can be enjoyed neat or with a mixer, which is why aficionados and newcomers alike are responding to it so positively.”

They say:

Nose: Fresh and floral with freshly sawn oak aromas. Spicy with hints of smoke

Palate: Silky, mellow and fruity with balanced peaty flavours then sweet oak and heather honey.

Finish: Soft, elegantly spicy, nutmeg, pepper and gentle lingering smokiness

I say:

Nose:  dried fruit, oak, and spice - 7/10

Palate: initially my brain registered Johnnie Black, but once settled loads more heather honey, beautifully balanced peatiness, and a little citrus – 7/10

Finish: long smoky finish, rounded off by a nice sweetness and touches of spice – 3.5/5

My rating: 17.5/25

A solid score for a blended scotch without an age statement. Half a point higher than Johnnie Black purely because of the great finish. Can enjoy it with a few blocks of ice, or mixed with soda!
